Cash App is a popular mobile payment app that allows people to send money to each other using a mobile app. While Cash App is best known for this feature, you can also get Cash App free money.
What is Cash App?
Cash App is a mobile payment app that lets Cash App customers send money to each other. It was initially released in 2013, and the app developer is Block, Inc. (formerly Square, Inc.). As of 2024, Square reports 57 million monthly transactions and $14.7 billion in annual revenues.
How Does Cash App Work?
Cash App is easy to use and only requires a few steps. Here’s how it works:
- Download the app. Download Cash App from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). Once the download and installation are complete, create an account with your phone number or email address.
- Link your bank account. Link your debit card or bank account to Cash App.
- Create your $Cashtag. Create your $Cashtag in the app. This is Cash App’s version of a username.
- Send money. Cash App makes it super easy to send money. You can easily send money to friends with their email, phone number, or $Cashtag. Once you find the person, enter the amount and hit send.
- Receive money. Similarly, anyone can find you by entering your email, phone number, or $Cashtag. Once they send the money, you should see it in your Cash App balance. You can then transfer it to your bank account.
- Request money. You can also request free money on Cash App. Enter a user’s $Cashtag or contact information and the amount you want to request. The recipient will then see the request and can send you money.
Cash App is a simple payment app. It generally only takes a few seconds to send or request money, and there are no fees for standard transfers. However, fees do apply for express transfers.
How to Cash App Free Money
To get free CashApp money, you will need to use the app a little more strategically. Still, Cash App gives money in a few different ways. This is why it’s one of my favorite money-making apps.
It might sound too good to be true, but Cash App does reward its users. Here’s how to make money on Cash App.
Free Money from Referral Bonuses
To learn how to make money on CashApp, consider the referral program. Cash App gives you a referral code which you can find in the refer a friend section of the app. Send the code to a friend who is interested in joining.
They can enter the referral code when they download the app and create their account. You’ll both get a $5 bonus when they use the code.
To get the referral, your friend should also send $5 within 14 days of using the referral code. Those ages 13-17 will need a legal guardian to join.
Cash Back with Cash Card
When you sign up for the Cash App, you can request a free Cash Card. It will arrive in around 10 business days. Once you receive the card, you can activate it with the QR code.
If you get the Cash App Cash Card, you can use Offers to get instant discounts from participating merchants. These include merchants like coffee shops, restaurants, and other places you love to shop. This is like getting free money from Cash App since there are no fees to use the card.
You can also use the Cash Card in Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Investing in Stocks
Cash App now has a feature that lets you invest in stocks. Like many modern investing apps, it lets you invest as much or as little as you want. This is because it supports fractional shares, so you don’t have to buy whole shares.
No commissions exist on Cash App investing, so buying stocks won’t cost anything.
The stock market tends to go up over time, on average. This allows you to grow your money by investing.
To be clear, investing in stocks doesn’t exactly mean you get free money. You may have to pay capital gains on any increase in your stocks’ value.
I should also mention that investing isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme. You generally must invest for years to ride out downturns.
Trading Bitcoin
The Cash App also supports Bitcoin purchases. The app lets you buy, sell, and receive Bitcoin in one place. You can even set up direct deposit with the Cash App and invest in Bitcoin automatically.
Another benefit is that you can send money internationally using Bitcoin on Cash App.
So, how does this allow you to get free money on Cash App? Again, it isn’t a way to get free money instantly. But if the price of bitcoin increases, you can capitalize on the increase.
I don’t generally recommend this because crypto prices can be volatile, and Bitcoin is already expensive. Still, some people have made a lot of money investing in crypto.
Earn Interest with Cash App Savings
Cash App also has a savings account, which lets you earn free money. Earning the highest rate takes a few steps, but it can work if you already use Cash App.
First, you must order the Cash App Card to earn 1.5% on savings account balances. If you receive direct deposits of at least $300 monthly, the rate increases to 4.5%.
Many high-yield savings accounts pay similar rates without these requirements. Still, Cash App only requires $1 to open a savings account. It also has unlimited transfers between your Cash and savings balances.
Cash App Giveaways
Cash App sometimes runs giveaways, which is one way to earn money. You’ll find two giveaways on Cash App: the $5,000 giveaway and the Super Cash App Friday.
The way these giveaways work depends on which one you enter. For instance, the $5,000 giveaway awards 200 people with $25 each. For Super Cash Friday, 10 people get $500, 20 get $250, and 100 get $100.
This is a great way to get free money on the Cash App. No purchase is necessary to enter, so you can easily get money.
ATM Reimbursements
If you receive at least $300 monthly in direct deposits, Cash App gives you free ATM withdrawals at all in-network ATMs. It also reimburses one out-of-network ATM fee instantly per 31 days.
When you receive at least $300 in direct deposits in a month, you extend your free withdrawals another 31 days. This won’t be a large amount of free money, but it’s nice to receive reimbursements.
Bottom Line
Consider the methods we’ve covered to learn how to get money on CashApp. Referral bonuses, cash back, and giveaways are some low-hanging fruit. But you can also get free Cash App money by investing in stocks or Bitcoin. Cash App will also reimburse ATM fees.
You aren’t likely to get rich with any of these strategies. Still, it can be a nice way to get a few extra dollars with minimal effort. And, well, it’s always nice to get a freebie or two.
